In her presentation, Dr. Rashida K. Braggs will discuss the book and performance work-in-progress that she is working on as a Fulbright scholar hosted by The Schulich School of Music. Her project merges ethnography and archival research with theatre, dance, music and spoken word to illustrate impactful migration narratives of Black women jazz performers in Paris, France.
Dr. Rashida K. Braggs
Dr. Rashida K. Braggs is a Professor of Africana Studies at Williams College and a scholar-performer who acts, dances, sings, composes music and performs spoken word. She has published widely with her monograph Jazz Diasporas: Race, Music and Migration in Post-World War II Paris and articles in such journals as The Black Scholar and Women & Music: A Journal of Gender and Culture. Her performances have been supported by Jacob's Pillow, the United Solo Theatre Festival, and the Camargo Foundation.
