Monique Jérôme-Forget C.M., O.Q., PhD

Topic: An intimate talk for Arts students, hosted in the CaPS Library, with McGill alumnae Monique Jérôme-Forget. She will discuss such things as having a career in Psychology, being an author, former MNA and serving as Minister of Finance. She will also discuss the relevance of an Arts degree in government, politics and health.  

Monique Jérôme-Forget is a Special Advisor in the Osler Montréal office. In 2010, she was appointed by the Minister of Finance of the Federal Government, Mr. James (Jim) Flaherty, to the Economic Advisory Council which is made up of eleven high profile members from across Canada. Since 2013, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Canada and also chairs the Human Resources and Compensation Committee. She is an active participant on the Executive Committee as well as the Governance Committee. She also has been part of a task force that examined the measures to put into place in order to allow Quebec businesses to better protect themselves from hostile takeover bids and foster the development of head offices.

She was a Member of the National Assembly from 1998 until April 2009 and served as Minister of Finance, Minister of Government Services, President of the Treasury Board. In addition, she has been a Vice Rector at Concordia University, Assistant Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Canada, President and CEO of the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail and Chair of its related research institute.

Paul will discuss his career path, lessons learned, demystify Capital Markets and offer advice to students thinking about entering this field.

Topic: An intimate talk for Arts students, hosted in the CaPS library, with McGill Alumnus John MacFarlane, Partner, at the business law firm Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. This talk will cover what business law is, what it means to practice in Canada and the US, and what Arts students thinking about a career in law should consider.
