HRMS Business Analyst

Position Context:

McGill University is implementing a HRMS system and is looking to hire the services of a R2R Business Analyst

  • The role specifically entails working with the user community to collect, analyze and make recommendations with regards to existing applications and data;
  • accompanying the user community during the conversion, test and implementation phases;
  • Acting as the front-line contact and liaison between the user community and the project team for the duration of the project; collaborating with the implementation team, comprised of HRIS specialists, Workday integrators, solution architects and development teams;
  • Ensuring that the implementation of the new HRMS will not have any negative impacts on account of legacy downstream applications and data that are critical to the day-to-day operations in the user community.

The successful candidate has a good knowledge of the full spectrum of HR activities and processes, from Recruitment to Retirement, and is able to provide expertise on data requirements and mapping.  She or he has a proven track record of having made a significant contribution to the successful implementation of large-scale HR/Talent Management solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Project Manager, the R2R Business Analyst will:

  • Contribute to the development and support of the R2R (Recruitment to Retirement) HRMS Implementation Program to ensure that current and future needs of the stakeholders and user community are represented.
  • Participate in the review of Workday design with the Process Owners, the Functional Business Analysts and the Data Analysts.
  • Gain knowledge of the existing local applications and provide expertise and support for the required analyses in support of the R2R local applications Impact initiative.
  • Contribute to the planning and development of workshops and associated support materials to assist the user community with their impact analyses.
  • Develop templates required to assist the user community’s impact analyses on local applications.
  • Develop templates required to support the capture of user community’s data conversion requirements.
  • Facilitate stakeholder and user community workshops
  • Evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
  • Develop and maintain effective, proactive relationships and communications with the user community to contribute to a successful overall user experience.
  • Collaborate with the Change Manager to ensure alignment of communications between stakeholders, user community and the project team.
  • Work closely with the Change Manager during the impact analysis.
  • Proactively support the user community’s activities related to the development of test cases and performance of end-to-end testing.
  • Assist the Functional Business Analysts in providing support to the user community during the Go-Live and post-Go-Live stabilization period.
  • Maintain a log of reported issues, concerns and questions formulated by the user community, ensure prompt follow-up with the project team, and circle back to the requestor.


University degree preferably with a major in human resource management, business administration, computer information systems, management information systems, or a related field.
IIBA Certified Business Analyst Certification desirable.

Three to five years’ experience as a Business Analyst, preferably in the context of a large HRMS implementation.

Prior certification and/or working experience of Workday HCM are an asset.

  • Superior ability to influence, collaborate and work across all levels of an organization;
  • Experience leading requirements sessions, organizing and modeling requirements for analysis, identifying gaps in requirements and reviewing requirements to ensure they are clear and unambiguous;
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously and to manage deadlines;
  • Fluent in English and French.

Additional Information:

The estimated duration of the contract is for a period of 12 months. The standard working week is based on 35 hours per week. No billable work is expected during standard McGill holidays including all Summer Fridays. Proposed Contractor(s) shall be available and ready to start providing services as soon as possible.
