The Learning Technology Consultant supports instructors, TAs and staff in the effective use of educational technologies through individual consultations and workshops. With solid experience in the design, development and delivery of instructional materials, the Learning Technology Consultant also leads instructional design projects.
Learning Technologies Support:
- Supports instructors, TAs, and TLS staff in the effective use of learning technologies through individual consultations (face-to-face and online) and custom workshops at both campuses (downtown and Macdonald).
- Works collaboratively with other TLS staff to design, develop and deliver workshops and workshop materials/resources (face-to-face and online).
- Works collaboratively with other TLS staff on various unit initiatives to provide expertise on learning technologies.
- Supports the implementation of new learning technology tools to enhance teaching and learning.
- Represents TLS with multiple external vendors with respect to product support, suggested enhancements, troubleshooting, pricing.
- Investigates new learning technology tools and recommends their use in supporting teaching and learning.
- Oversees pilots of new software and obtains instructor and student feedback.
- Develops guidelines and best practices to guide use of learning technologies in collaboration with TLS staff.
- Participates in implementation/policy development committees with respect to myCourses, Polling @ McGill, Office 365 and other instructional tools.
- Provides strategic advice to IT Services on upgrades and/or new versions of software and/or hardware.
- Creates instructional documentation for new tools for instructors and students in collaboration with IT Services.
- Provides third tier support for IT Service Desk.
- Works collaboratively with IT Services to ensure most effective support for instructors.
- Develops and delivers presentations on new technologies for internal and external audiences where required.
Instructional Design Projects:
- Provides expertise in instructional design to create technology supported, hybrid and fully online courses.
- Leads ADDIE process (analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation) for specific projects in collaboration with team members.
- Guides and supports content experts (instructors) in the development of their learning materials.
- Develops learning materials in consultation with content experts.
- Develops learning materials in collaboration with Multimedia Production, IT Services, Libraries and other units where required.
- Investigates and shares new evidence-based pedagogical approaches.
- Develops and delivers project presentations for internal and external audiences where required.
- Communicates effectively with all members and groups involved in the project.
Three (3) years' related experience
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Demonstrated awareness of the role of teaching and learning in the University environment. Demonstrated experience in instructional design and development. Client focused and service oriented. Good organizational and decision-making skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to provide training and support to faculty and staff. Strong communication skills and presentation skills and the ability to write training materials and related documentation. Demonstrated ability to work in a computerized environment using learning management systems, word-processing, databases, spreadsheets, presentation software, Minerva and HTML. English, spoken and written. French, spoken.
