Position Context:

McGill University has embarked on the implementation of a new Talent and Human Resources System (Workday).  In order to support this new initiative, we are looking for a Payroll System Implementation Advisor to support both the project and the regular workload in the Payroll unit of McGill.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and analyzes rules/policies and processes in place at McGill related to the payment of remuneration for 15 unionized employee groups and two groups of non-unionized employees.
  • Investigates best practices related to the administration of payroll and taxation of earnings.
  • Works with the Total Compensation, Labour Relations and Payroll teams and all McGill end users to optimize processes and revise rules when possible.
  • Collaborates with external implementation providers to define the specifications of the payroll module of the new human resources system and participates in the following testing.
  • Participates in the regular tasks of the payroll unit in order to understand the current challenges.


Undergraduate degree

Three (3) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll management or systems.   Knowledge of Workday an asset.  Good judgment, analytical skills, attention to detail, problem solving and both oral and written communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to liaise with a variety of internal and external contacts and to provide guidance and make recommendations. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.  Certification from Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) required.
