Under the general direction of the Director Development, Toronto, the incumbent will develop, plan and implement strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing and stewarding major gifts in the Greater Toronto Area (region). The incumbent will be responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of prospects, developing and building relationships with alumni around professional and social networks, and building and managing a network of fundraising volunteers.
- Develop and implement cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies to secure major gifts in the Greater Toronto Area.
- Develop a strong understanding of the region and conduct all prospect and stewardship activities in a way that ensures its effectiveness for those living in the area. Develop an in-depth understanding of McGill University’s overall and key fundraising priorities, in order to be an effective ambassador for the University.
- Work in close collaboration with colleagues across University Advancement, including Faculty based fundraising operations. Develop an in-depth understanding of Faculty priorities.
- Collaborate with staff in Regional Programs and in the various Faculty Development Offices in order to integrate the solicitations with their major gifts programs.
- Manage a prospect portfolio (approx. 100 – 150) and carry out significant steps (moves) in accordance with a strategy designed to result in increased philanthropic support for the region.
- Identify, cultivate and solicit prospects capable of contributing major gifts of $100,000 or more to University priorities. Through personal visits, identify and qualify individuals to determine capacity, inclination and interests in providing special and major gift support to McGill University. Evaluate and recommend appropriate next steps for newly qualified potential donors and current donors.
- In collaboration with University Advancement Alumni Relations, manage the organization of special events geared to major gifts prospects and to enhancing ongoing alumni relations with this particular group of prospects.
- Manage volunteer networks that assist in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of prospects.
- Participate in Prospect Management System; file timely and appropriate contact reports, recording of proposals, etc.
- Participate in University Advancement meetings, committees, etc…
- Work closely with University Advancement Communications to ensure that messages and communications (case statements, proposals, bulleting, donor reports) are consistent with the University’s case for support and fundraising priorities and with colleagues throughout University Advancement, to achieve university-wide fundraising goals.
