Dr. Elsa Vasseur, Associate Professor, Animal Science, McGill University

Elsa Vasseur is an Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science at McGill University. She is the Chairholder of the NSERC Industrial Research Chair Novalait-Dairy Farmers of Canada-Valacta on Sustainable Life of Dairy Cattle since 2016. In 2020, Vasseur became a McGill University-William Dawson Scholar (equivalent to a Canada Research Chair Tier 2). Her research expertise relates to animal behavior and welfare, and their associations with livestock sustainability farming, in national and international context. Her research has a major industry-focus making use of contacts with industry stakeholders at all levels such as farmers associations, processors, and advisors to lead to the development of new recommendations and novel approaches for knowledge transfer towards Canadian farmers and beyond. Her international interests and experience include an on-going project financed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN-FAO) to understand the performance and adaptation of livestock systems in milk and meat sectors in Senegal in the context of climate change.
