The K.A.C. Elliott Lecture, " Mechanism of Episodic Memories " will be delivered on May 1, 2018 by Susumu Tonegawa, Picower Professor of Biology and Neuroscience, Director, RIKEN-MIT Center for Neural Circuit Genetics, Director, RIKEN Brain Science Institute, Principal Investigator, Tonegawa Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA. This important named lecture will take place in the Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre of the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital (3801 University Street). A reception will follow.

The KAC Elliott Lecture was instituted in honour of Dr. Kenneth Allan Caldwell Elliott who was a neurochemist at the MNI (1958-1968). Dr. Elliott contributed immensely to the understanding of the basic chemical mechanisms of cerebral edema, epilepsy, and brain tumours.  Importantly, in 1957, Dr. Elliot and his colleagues identified the role of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), now believed to be the major inhibitory transmitter in the brain.
