The information session will include:

·       A brief presentation about the requirements of the Insight Development Grants (IDG) by the Office of Sponsored Research;

·       Presentations from Prof. Ahmed El-Geneidy (School of Urban Planning) and Prof. Robert Whitley (Department of Psychiatry), who will share their insights and experiences as peer reviewers and successful awardees;

·       A question and answer period

Please RSVP online by Friday, November 3rd, 2017 at 12:00 P.M.

Background:

Insight Development Grants support research in its initial stages for up to two years (with an automatic extension period for one year) for emerging and established scholars in the social sciences and humanities. The grants enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. The maximum value of an Insight Development Grant is $75,000. For the current competition, at least 50% of funds will be reserved for applications from emerging scholars.

Normally researchers may not apply, as applicant, for an Insight Grant and an Insight Development Grant within the same calendar year. However, given the launch of the smaller Insight Grants stream in 2017, researchers who applied unsuccessfully for an Insight Development Grant in February 2017 may exceptionally apply for an Insight Grant in October 2017. However, the proposed IG project must have different research objectives than the IDG project.

Please note that the application form for the current competition is not yet available, but will be posted on the SSHRC website in the coming weeks.
