Being Black in Consulting event provides students with insight into consulting careers

Published: 3 October 2023

Diverse consulting teams thrive when solving complex problems together, but, for people who haven’t had much exposure to the industry, it can seem a little opaque. The Being Black in Consulting event seeks to shed some light on this subject. This year’s panel event, hosted on September 12 by the McGill Social Business Network, the Black Students’ Network of McGill, and the student-run firm JED Consulting, brought together Black consultants from major firms like McKinsey, Bain, KPMG and Accenture at Le Mount Stephen Hotel. Representatives shared their experiences navigating the industry, and discussed initiatives that firms have implemented to be more inclusive. While change does not happen overnight, panelists emphasized that anyone can go into consulting, no matter their academic, socioeconomic, or racial background.
