Construction Start: Morrice Hall - Building envelope repairs

McGill University has mandated Corenov Constructeurs to carry out the following project: Morrice Hall / 22-038 - Priority building envelop repairs, lower roof.

The project consists of the installation of a steel structure in the library to stabilize the roof and exterior walls of the turret.

Construction start date:

  • Installation temporary protections: June 22, 2023
  • Installation of scaffolding, localized demolition and measurements: July 10, 2023
  • Steel structure installation start: mid to late October .
  • Repairs of architectural finishes and removal of scaffolding and protections: mid-November.

Planned construction end date: Late November 2023

Work schedule: Mondays to Fridays, 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Scope of work:
The work will be limited to the interior of Morrice Hall’s turret. 

First intervention:

  • Installation of temporary protections.
  • Installation of scaffoldings on the turret’s balcony and localized demolition of the ceiling.
  • Measurements for production of steel structure.

Second intervention:

  • Installation of scaffolding in the center of the turret’s main floor.
  • Delivery, assembly and installation of the steel structure and parts.
  • Architectural repairs and finishing on the turret’s ceiling.
  • Removal of temporary protections, scaffolding and clean up.

Impact:

There will be no personnel and student access to the turret during scaffolding installation, localized demolition and the second intervention. Between the first and second intervention, access to the turret’s main floor will be possible.

Contractors will require early morning access to the building for delivery and installation of the scaffoldings and steel structure to the turret.
