First Nations activist gets an honorary degree from U of Winnipeg

Cindy Blackstock (MMGMT'03) held Ottawa’s feet to the fire over the treatment of native children on reserves for almost 10 years. Last week, Dr Blackstock’s dedication and work on native issues resulted in an honorary doctorate of laws from the University of Winnipeg, a degree she dedicated to a young native boy who died in hospital in 2005. Dr Blackstock serves as executive director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada, and as a Professor at McGill’s School of Social Work. She also works on health issues with the UN.
