Quebec increases its sustainable agriculture program by $15 million

On Monday, Minister of Agriculture André Lamontagne will speak at the 7th Summit of Subnational Governments and Cities, an "official side event" of COP15. The Minister, alongside a dozen dignitaries, will participate in a panel that will stress the importance of making local governments ambassadors for the new global framework on biological diversity, set to be adopted at the close of COP15. In mid-November, in preparation for the event, Lamontagne toured both McGill University and Université de Laval, and spoke with subject matter experts to bolster his knowledge of sustainable production systems.

.“We have to work in the right direction,” he told La Presse during his visit to the Macdonald Campus of McGill University on November 18. “For example, in agri-environment, if there are 10 possible avenues that we can explore, in a context of limited resources, where should we put our efforts? Where do we want to take our farmers?" In his second term, Minister Lamontagne has said he intends to make "sustainable food self-sufficiency" his top priority.
