PhD Oral Defense of Laam Li, Department of Natural Resource Sciences

Legionella pneumophila (Lp) is the causative agent of Legionnaires’ disease. This bacterium can survive for an extended period in freshwater without suitable host or nutrient and be transmitted to human through inhalation of contaminated aerosols. Many virulence genes and how they contribute to the pathogenicity of Lp have been discovered over the years. However, little is known about the molecular basis of its ability to remain viable in water under nutrient limitation. Therefore, this thesis aims at identifying important genes for Lp to survive in water.

Everyone in the McGill community is welcome to attend a PhD oral defense. Please join us in celebrating the accomplishments of our PhD candidates.
