Montréal (Canada) – Fasken Martineau, a leading international business law and litigation firm and McGill University's Institute for the Study of International Development (ISID), today announced a new partnership in the development and delivery of its Executive Education Certificate Program.

The first session, to be held at McGill University's Montreal campus in November 2012 will focus on Corporate Social Responsibility. With the working title "CSR: Creating Value through Collaborative Sustainable Development", the program will bring together private and public participants in a five (5)-day course. This certificate course will serve as the first of a number of programs to be developed. .

"ISID is pleased to announce this new program delivered through this unique partnership with Fasken Martineau," said Phil Oxhorn, founding Director of the Institute for the Study of International Development. "We welcome this active collaboration and are confident it will have important benefits for both organizations as well as offering business representatives, NGO's and public officials practical solutions to some of today's most pressing development challenges," added Mr. Oxhorn.

"Businesses are increasingly faced with responsibilities to develop CSR programs and initiatives and this new training course will describe best practices and provide both a legal and practical understanding of this evolving field. We are pleased to take a leadership role with ISID" said Kevin O'Callaghan, Vancouver-based Partner and co-chair of Fasken Martineau's Corporate Social Responsibility Group.

"Fasken Martineau is proud to be associated with McGill's Institute for the Study of International Development in the preparation and delivery of this innovative CSR training program," said Anne Drost, Montreal-based Partner and co-chair of the Corporate Social Responsibility Law Group.

Background

McGill University's Board of Governors formally created the Institute for the Study of International Development in December 2008, and it has already become a leader in cutting-edge research and teaching related to international development. It reflects a renewed commitment to building bridges between McGill and the international development community through McGill's unique focus on multidisciplinary research that is intended to contribute directly to better evidence-based development policies and practices.

The Institutional Partners grew out of the strategic planning undertaken as part of the creation of the Institute. Institutional Partners will form a small, select group of organizations whose activities and interests will form the foundation for important synergies with the expertise and resources ISID can mobilize. As ambassadors and partners of the Institute, Institutional Partners will have the opportunity to engage in a number of ISID activities that include conferences, workshops, teaching opportunities, project work, and applied research.
