The disc features  Renaissance motets based on texts from the Gospels. These pieces  were composed between 1500 and 1564 by the "lost generation" of composers - Willaert, Jachet, Manchicourt and Gombert, and depict various events in the life of Jesus, from birth to crucifixion. VivaVoce was founded in Montreal in 1998 by Peter Schubert. The award-winning ensemble is committed to performing classical music from all periods and to developing the art of Canadian choral music by commissioning at least one new work each year.

Well-known to audiences across Canada as a soloist, chamber musician and recording artist, Stéphane Lemelin is equally reputed as a skilled university administrator, most recently as the Director of the School of Music at the University of Ottawa. He is also a dedicated pedagogue who has been teaching at university-level for 28 years and has given masterclasses around the world. Formerly a member of Trio Hochelaga, he is the Artistic Director of the Prince Edward County Music Festival, held in Ontario.

Violinist Victor Fournelle-Blain is the strings category  winner of the 2014 McGillConcerto Competition.  On Sunday, Victor performed  his winning rendition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Op. 64 and will perform with the McGill Symphony Orchestra in the 2014-2015 season. The award comes with the recently established Mary Feher Prize, a substantial cash award given for the first time this competition.  Currently an Artist Diploma student at Schulich, Victor is  a graduate of the Conservatoire de Montréal and of Yale University.

Esteli Gomez received a GRAMMY Award in the Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance Category with her ensemble A Roomful of Teeth.  While at Schulich, soprano Esteli Gomez studied with Prof. Sanford Sylvan.  Her ensemble’s self-titled debut album, was  nominated in three categories- Best Engineer for Classical Album, Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance, and Best Contemporary Classical Composition for Caroline Shaw’s Partita for 8 voices.

The Schulich School of Music announces the appointment of Violin Professor Felicia Moye beginning August 1st, 2014.

 “We are tremendously pleased to welcome Felicia Moye as a member of our string faculty. Felicia has had an extraordinary career as first violinist of the Miami String Quartet, as a versatile orchestral and chamber musician, and as a soloist.  She brings a wealth of experience to the school, complementing the current string area faculty. Mahidol University's College of Music (Bangkok), in collaboration with Goethe-Institut (Thailand), recently hosted the "Young Composers in Southeast Asia Competition & Festival 2013". The event invited composers from Southeast Asia to present their compositions. Ten composers were selected by international jury members to attend a workshop to present their credentials and discuss on their outstanding pieces.

Ms. Constance V. Pathy  is among the 90 newest appointees to the Order of Canada, announced December 30th, 2013  by former McGill principal David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. The honour, established in 1967 by the Queen, recognizes contributions to Canada; its motto, desiderantes meliorem patriam, means "they desire a better country." Appointees are made on the recommendation of an independent advisory council headed by Canada's Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Beverley McLachlin. Constance V.

This year three members of the Schulich family are up for Grammy awards: recent graduates Esteli Gomez, and Brian Losch, as well as Prof. Matt Haimovitz.  While at Schulich, soprano Esteli Gomez studied with Prof. Sanford Sylvan.

It goes without saying that following the tragic disaster of July 6, 2013, residents of Lac Mégantic need all the support that can be provided to them, and  times of tragedy, music can be a tremendous comfort.
