Overview: While beliefs regarding the impact of AI on education – both realized and potential – are readily available, what we actually know and understand about such impacts is still quite limited. This panel will illustrate some of the routes that researchers are taking towards building a better collective understanding necessary for the responsible use of AI in education.

The most important but also the most challenging part of designing a rubric is identifying the criteria to assess. In this video, we share four questions and an example to guide you with designing rubric criteria to effectively assess learning. After you watch the video, review one of your current assessment tasks to see the extent to which you address the four questions.
Would you like to (re)design one of your courses and enhance your teaching skills?
In this hands-on workshop, we will discuss learning-centered course design principles and support you with developing an in-depth Course Plan, which you can use to help prepare your course outline. This is a great opportunity to exchange feedback among peers to improve course design and teaching approaches.

The definition of a “large class” may vary depending on context; however, the challenges encountered tend to be consistent across disciplines. Join us to gain insights from fellow instructors on how they design and implement assessment tasks that support learning while also streamlining grading processes to be more effective and time efficient.
Last term, panelists from across the McGill community engaged in a thought-provoking discussion about the rapidly evolving world of generative AI as it relates to teaching, learning, and assessment. Organize a “watch party” with colleagues to view a video of the discussion. Then, have a conversation amongst yourselves about your approaches to assessment in the age of AI."
Assessment signals what is important for students to learn and provides them with feedback on their progress. While the emergence of generative (gen) AI has the potential to revolutionize the way we assess student learning—by creating personalized assessment tasks tailored to individual student learning outcomes and supporting diversity and inclusion, it also raises concerns about surface learning, authenticity, integrity, and bias.

Part 3: Collaborating on evaluation criteria
How can we engage students with feedback and encourage them to take greater responsibility for their learning before, during, and after assignments? The goal of this 4-part webinar series is to address these concerns with feedback strategies that engage students in dialogue. We will present several strategies suited to writing assignments such as essays, research (term) papers, and lab reports.
