McGill SCS Accounting Students Earn CPA Scholarships

Published: 7 September 2016

Three students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting at the McGill School of Continuing Studies have been awarded scholarships from the Fondation des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec.

Aly Mamdani, Nancy Tang and Titika Ziavras, students at McGill’s School of Continuing Studies, will each be awarded a scholarship of $2,000. The School’s Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting is an accredited Professional Education Program of CPA Canada.

“Bravo to Aly, Nancy and Titika,” says Dr. Carmen Sicilia, Associate Dean and Director of Career & Professional Development Credit Programs at McGill’s School of Continuing Studies. “The Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting is very competitive and students work very hard throughout the year to meet the program’s requirements. We at the School of Continuing Studies are just as thrilled as the recipients to hear of their CPA scholarships.”

The scholarship is open to students enrolled in an accredited university program who have completed a minimum of 12 university credits. Students are selected based on their academic excellence, as well as their social involvement. All three were honoured by the recognition.

“As a child of immigrant parents, a guiding principle in my life has always been to work hard and act with integrity,” says recipient Aly Mamdani. “This scholarship is a testament to those principles, and an homage to my parents who instilled these values in me.”

“I'm really honoured to be one of the recipients of the CPA scholarship,” says fellow recipient Nancy Tang. “I have put in a lot of hard work towards my CPA designation over the past two years, and it feels great to have my efforts and ambitions recognized by the Order.”

“It is truly an honor to receive recognition from the Ordre of CPAs of Quebec for all the hard work I've put into the CPA program at the McGill School of Continuing Studies,” says Titika Ziavras. “After a long university career completing a Bachelor in Science (Microbiology &Immunology), a Graduate Diploma in Accounting as well as the GCPA program at McGill, I couldn't be happier to have been selected to receive the CPA scholarship. It’s the perfect way to end my university studies at McGill.”

The Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting prepares students to write the National CPA Common Final Exams (CFE). Its focus is to allow students to develop the analytical skills, diagnostic capabilities, and professional judgment necessary to operate nationally and internationally in the fields in which CPAs are likely to be engaged.
