Biography

Dr Donal Hanley is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Law at McGill University, teaching Aircraft Financing Law at its Institute of Air and Space Law.

In addition, he is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, a Visiting Lecturer teaching Aircraft Financing Law at the International Institute of Air and Space Law at Leiden University, an Instructor in Aircraft Acquisition and Financing at the International Air Transport Association and a non-executive director on the boards of Irish subsidiaries of WNG Capital LLC, a commercial aircraft lessor.

He was previously Vice President, Legal of Aviation Capital Group (ACG), a large commercial aircraft leasing company, and first Managing Director of its Irish subsidiary, ACG Aircraft Leasing Ireland Limited. He also served as president of the board of directors of ACG’s other Irish, French and Swedish subsidiaries and was a co-founder of CIAF Leasing, an Egyptian aircraft leasing company joint venture of ACG and various Egyptian Civil Aviation Ministry entities.

He has over 30 years of experience of practicing aircraft leasing and finance law in Ireland, the UK, Japan and the USA. Qualified as a lawyer in Ireland, England and California, he has also studied in Japan, Canada and the Netherlands and has, among others, MBA, LLM and PhD degrees, all specializing in aviation law.

He has published a number of articles as well as a textbook on aircraft operating leasing law and is a regular speaker at industry conferences.
