Update: Learn more about the integration of Counselling and Mental Health Services and the new Psychiatric Services.

Mental Health First Aid Training

The McGill Counselling Service aims to support the wellness of our students by offering holistic and comprehensive services from a systemic approach, seeing the individual within a dynamic milieu.  As part of this vision of psychological health, we recently launched a few exciting initiatives (in collaboration with other services and the community) that serve to create a stronger and more sensitive campus culture of mental health wellbeing.

One such initiative is Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), from the Mental Health Commission of Canada. MHFA is a training program that provides skills and knowledge to better manage potential or developing mental health issues.  MHFA is delivered in a user-friendly manner to appeal to different levels of experience and education, and is thus accessible to personnel from all university sectors: faculty, HR staff, advisors, floor fellows, security, etc.

The cost of this training is $38 per participant. Please see additional payment details below.

Duration

The preferred format of delivery for the 12-hour MHFA course is over 2 back-to-back 6-hour days. *Attendance on both consecutive days is required to receive your certificate.

Course Size

The recommended group size is between 12-24 participants.

Cost

The cost per participant is $38, which includes the manual and a certificate of attendance (plus shipping cost and GST). We accept the use of a FOAPAL for McGill Staff. Alternatively, payment can be made at the Counselling Service office (address below) by debit card, Visa, Master Card or Amex. We do not accept cash or personal checks.

Please join us in promoting wellness in our community! For more information, please contact workshops.counselling [at] mcgill.ca (Calli Armstrong) or visit the official MHFA website to find out more.
