Wellness Action Recovery Program (WRAP)
Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) is a concrete and evidence-based method for maintaining your wellness. WRAP is rooted in the philosophy that recovery is possible for everyone and that individuals with serious mental illness can live productive, healthy, and happy lives. Integral to WRAP is the concept that individuals are the experts on themselves and by drawing on personal strengths, people can play an active role in managing their own well-being.
When experiencing a mental health crisis, it is normal for individuals to feel a loss of control and autonomy. WRAP focuses on regaining autonomy and supporting individuals throughout their recovery, whatever that means to them. In addition to group activities, we include deep breathing, meditation, journaling and sleep hygiene activities.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
WRAP is a participation-based group program that meets 2 hours weekly, over a 6 week period. Each group is facilitated by two students with lived mental illness experiences; all of our facilitators have participated in the program and have been trained by the Copeland Centre for Wellness and Recovery over an intensive week-long period.
Is it right for me?
WRAP is trans-diagnostic; that means no specific diagnosis is necessary to enter a group. Many participants are simply looking for practical tools they can use to maintain their well-being.
The structure of WRAP is also transferable to many different situations. For example, athletes have used WRAP to design a plan to maintain their physical health or to recover from an injury. WRAP has very few strict rules and there are no right or wrong ways of creating your WRAP plan. Even our facilitators are constantly learning new coping strategies or wellness tools from group participants.
What if I don't feel comfortable sharing in a group setting?
We understand that coming to a group can be intimidating. We do our best to ensure that all WRAP groups are an inclusive and non-judgmental space for all participants. While we encourage students to participate in the activities and make space for sharing, there is always the option to pass. Overtime though, we find that most participants open up and become more comfortable sharing. Simply hearing that other people have similar experiences to you can be extremely comforting and de-stigmatizing!
