Andrew Potter, the debate continues

Amid the fallout from former McGill Institute for the Study of Canada director Andrew Potter’s Maclean’s article about stranded motorists, the Globe and Mail interviewed McGill Principal Suzanne Fortier, who defended Professor Potter’s resignation as director of MISC.

Yet the firestorm continues. Subsequent letters to the editor include one by former columnist Norman Spector, who decries what he sees as an abdication on the school’s part in the face of a public opinion backlash. Desautels Professor Henry Mintzberg, on the other hand, dismisses fears about academic freedom and echoes the Principal’s opinion that Mr. Potter’s position of authority made his article “irresponsible.”
