When COVID-19 hit Canada, Catherine Dagenais (EMBA’18) successfully maintained employee and consumer operations at SAQ, Quebec’s liquor commission. As the government retailer’s CEO since 2018, Dagenais spearheaded company efforts to implement strict sanitary protocols and develop contactless delivery solutions to meet consumer needs.
New school launched by EMBA grads
A new school for First Nations leaders was launched on Nov. 25, ahead of the Grand Economic Circle of Indigenous People and Quebec, which took place this past Nov. 25 and 26. Initiated by First Nations, this new school is propelled by Executive Education HÉC Montréal and will welcome its first cohort starting December 9, 2021.

Congratulations to Frantz Saintellemy (EMBA’20) on his appointment to the role of chancellor at the Université de Montréal. A driven entrepreneur with a long track record of success, Saintellemy serves as president and chief operating officer for LeddarTech Inc., an artificial intelligence company on the forefront of developing assisted driving technology. He is also the founder of Groupe 3737, a centre that promotes diversity in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Congratulations to Ian Picard (EMBA’21) for being named to Poets & Quants’ 2021 “Best and Brightest EMBAs” list. A prominent member of the Huron-Wendat First Nation, Picard serves as Deputy Manager of Development and Asset Management for RBA Financial Group, an organization dedicated to providing financial planning assistance and pension funds to First Nations communities across Canada.

Under the directorship of Fady Dagher (EMBA’12), the police department for the urban agglomeration of Longueil (SPAL), along with the City of Longueuil, recently received a top municipal prize from the Union Des Municipalités Du Québec (UMQ).

Entrepreneur Fabienne Colas (EMBA’21) recently created Women of Colour Thrive/Ellev Femmes de Couleur with a vision for cultivating diverse female talent in the workplace.
The organization will work in tandem with companies across Canada to identify and address opportunities to improve equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
EMBA students celebrated for International Women’s Day

EMBA graduates excel at international public speaking competition
Two McGill graduates have reached the divisional championship of the Toastmasters International, a speech evaluation competition created in 1924 to promote public speaking and leadership skills internationally. Jean-Francois Bertrand (EMBA’14) captured first place in the discourse of assessment in French, while Michael Rodrigues (EMBA’20) won the English speech assessment.

Congratulations to Dominique Mathieu (EMBA’21), the first woman in the history of Pratt & Whitney Canada to be named Vice President, Counsel and Corporate Secretary.
Mathieu’s promotion follows 19 years of experience in the company’s legal department, most recently as the deputy general counsel.

In “Humor, a coat of epoxy on the glass ceiling,” Patry studies seventeen women leaders across industries and concludes that managerial humour remains gendered.
