HCALM Network launches its 2019-2020 Call for Proposals

The HCALM Network issues regularly a call for proposals for research projects whose focus is to investigate the relationship between language and access to health care or social services.

Proposals must be e-mailed by Sunday, March 3, 2019.

Improving Access to Health Services in English through e-Training: Dialogue McGill and Cégep à distance Embark on CEGEP Tour

Dialogue McGill and Cégep à distance recently kicked off a tour of CEGEPs to promote free digital curriculum tools designed to help French-speaking persons to enhance their ability to provide services to English-speaking clients within Quebec’s health network.

Serving Your Patient Better! New ESL Self-Assessment Software for Québec Nurses

Tailored for Québec nurses, this learning software aims at making professionals aware about linguistic correctness and good use of communication in health context, as well as encouraging their listening abilities. It will address the needs of intermediate level learners. Characterized by various scenarios from working environment with multiple choices of wordings to listen to and among which to choose the correct and appropriate one, the approach is both practical and fun.

Sue Harrison in charge of French courses for McGill HSS students

Sue Harrison is now the person in charge of the French courses for McGill HSS students at McGill French Language Centre (FLC) replacing Hélène Riel-Salvatore, who recently retired from her position. Previously, Sue was part of the  winning team behind Dialogue McGill’s Self Study Workbooks.

New Role for Hélène Riel-Salvatore

Hélène Riel-Salvatore has hung up her hat as a teacher and program coordinator at McGill French Language Centre, but will continue to work towards better access to health and social services for English-speaking communities in Québec. Over her career, she initiated and animated FLC French courses for McGill HSS students with a constant passion and energy, and retirement will be anything but idle.

Anglais Santé awarded the “Prix d’excellence” by L’Association canadienne d’éducation des adultes des universités de langue française (ACDEAULF)

Anglais Santé, the SCS language training program for HSS professionals has been awarded the 2017 “Prix d’excellence” of L’Association canadienne d’éducation des adultes des universités de langue française (ACDEAULF). This prestigious award is given to a francophone or bilingual university in Canada for a particular achievement or for a significant contribution to the development of French-language adult education over a long period of time.

QCGN presents Jim Carter with the Sheila and Victor Goldbloom Award

On October 26, 2017, the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) recognized the work accomplished by Jim Carter throughout his long career by awarding him the Sheila and Victor Goldbloom prize. Created in 2009, the Goldbloom Prize is an initiative of the QCGN to underline exceptional contributions of people who, like Sheila and Victor Goldbloom, have devoted themselves to the greater vitality of their English-speaking communities both within Quebec and within Canada.

Just published: A report on interviews with Health and Social Services network respondents in the Language Training Program

In the spring of 2017, the Dialogue McGill management team wanted to take advantage of the Project’s renewal period to identify lessons learned during implementation of the Language Training Program over the past three years and see what improvements they could make to it for the next five years.
