Our research participants shared generously. We learned many things about the challenges they faced in learning to do academic work, to advance their careers and, more broadly, to create the kind of life they wanted to have in today’s economy, where the nature of work and possible careers is changing daily, and within the academy, where there are many more contingent positions and fewer tenure tracks.
