Paradise Lost in our Time: How Milton’s Epic can Help a World in Jeopardy

Join us on January 27, 2020 at 5:30 - 7:00 pm for a talk with Erin Shields, Lucy Peacock and Maggie Kilgour entitled "Paradise Lost in our Time: How Milton’s Epic can Help a World in Jeopardy."

Erin Shields is a Canadian actress and playwright. Her play Paradise Lost, a theatrical adaptation of John Milton's Paradise Lost, was a shortlisted finalist for the 2018 Governor General's Award for English-language drama.

Lucy Peacock is a celebrated Canadian actress, best known for major stage roles at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. She plays the role of Satan in Shields’ adaptation of Paradise Lost.

Maggie Kilgour is Molson Professor of English Language and Literature at McGill University. One of the leading Milton scholars in the world, she is author of the prize-winning book, Milton and the Metamorphosis of Ovid.

 

 

The event will also feature “Survival Narratives” developed by Marianopolis Liberal Arts students at a workshop led by McGill English graduate students. Together, they explored how literature can help us develop new stories in response to the climate emergency.
