Curriculum Objectives: Procedure Skills

          

While it is unlikely that you will become independent in all of the 65 procedures listed in the CFPC procedure document, it is expected that you be competent with a general approach to procedures. By the end of your residency you should know how to perform the following:

Skin procedures

Abscess incision and drainage
Laceration repair
Skin biopsy
Excision of dermal lesion
Cryotherapy of skin lesions

 

Musculoskeletal Procedures

Aspiration and injection, knee
Aspiration and injection, shoulder
Aspiration and injection other
Application of cast or splint
Reduction of shoulder
Reduction of dislocated radial head

Women’s Health Procedures

Insertion of intrauterine device
Endometrial biopsy
 

Obstetrical Procedures

Normal vaginal delivery
Episiotomy and repair
 

Resuscitation Procedures

Oral airway insertion
Bag-and-mask ventilation
Chest compressions (all ages)
Endotrachial intubation
Cardiac defibrillation
Central line insertion
