Hybrid event | Knitting in the Stacks

What better combination is there than knitting and books? Join McGill librarians for the launch of a new knitting pattern inspired by an item in the Rare and Special Collections. The new pattern, for “Grammar of Ornament Gloves” is available for free to all. Whether your craft is knitting, embroidery, crochet, colour, or architecture, the sourcebook, The Grammar of Ornament (1856) might provide inspiration! Written by Welsh architect Owen Jones, the Extra Large Folio edition is an ode to architectural ornament and decoration from around the globe. With richly coloured chromolithograph plates, this work is full of material for every budding pattern designer or artist.

Tricotons à la bibliothèque

Du tricot et des livres : que demander de mieux? Les bibliothécaires de McGill vous invitent au lancement d’un nouveau modèle de tricot inspiré par ses collections de livres rares et spécialisés. Les explications de ce modèle, une paire de gants dont les motifs sont tirés de l’ouvrage The Grammar of Ornament (1856), sont offertes gratuitement à tous (voir ici). Que vous vous intéressiez au tricot, à la broderie, au crochet, à la couleur ou à l’architecture, le livre à l’origine du modèle pourrait bien vous donner des idées aussi! Œuvre de l’architecte gallois Owen Jones, ce recueil édité en très grand format constitue une ode à l’ornementation architecturale à travers le monde. Avec ses chromolithographies richement colorées, il ne manque jamais de stimuler l’imagination des créateurs de modèles et artistes en devenir.
