The Department of Mining and Materials Engineering is located on McGill's main campus in downtown Montréal. We invite you to explore our website and discover the outstanding people, programs and facilities making up our department.
Humans recently produced more mass of synthetic materials than all biomass on the planet.
At McGill, Materials Engineering encompasses all aspects of material synthesis, processing, characterization and modeling. The materials we develop are applied as coatings for airplanes, prosthetics for bone replacement, nano-sized sensors, rechargeable batteries, and much more.
Our faculty includes 17 professors training talented students coming from all over the world. We have the lowest student-to-professor ratio within the Faculty of Engineering and a world-class research program supported by state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. We offer one of the few accredited co-op undergraduate degrees at McGill, as well as research-based M.Sc. and Ph.D., and course-based M.Eng. degrees that prepare our graduates to tackle today's most challenging problems.
