Sara Schabas, soprano, Winner of the 2023–2024 Wirth Vocal Prize

Praised for her “beautifully clear, light lyric soprano” (Ludwig Van), Toronto-born soprano Sara Schabas is the 2024 winner of the Wirth Vocal Prize. She has also received awards from the Eckhardt-Grammaté Competition, the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, and the Hnatyshyn Foundation among others. She has sung leading roles with Vancouver Opera, Pacific Opera Victoria, Little Opera Company of Winnipeg and Tapestry Opera, among others, and is a current member of Barbara Hannigan’s Equilibrium Young Artists. Sara holds degrees from the University of Toronto and Roosevelt University with additional studies at Vienna’s Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst and is currently pursuing doctoral studies at McGill University.
