9th edition of the McGill Summer Organ Academy from July 8-18, 2013

Published: 3 July 2013

We are dedicating the 2013 concerts of the McGill Summer Organ Academy to the memory of Marie-Claire Alain (1926-2013).  In 1981, Marie-Claire played one of the inaugural recitals of the University Organ in Redpath Hall as this was the first copy of a French classical organ in North America.  At the Fall Convocation in 2001, McGill awarded a Doctor of Music, honoris causa to Marie-Claire Alain.
We are excited to welcome Hans-Ola Ericsson (Sweden), the new Chair for Organ at the Schulich School of Music for the first time to the McGill Summer Organ Academy.  He will be playing our opening concert on July 9th at Redpath Hall; Lena Weman will join him in concert on baroque flute. On Sunday, July 14th, he will play a second concert at the Notre-Dame Basilica in collaboration with their International Organ Festival.

We are happy to announce, that on July 12th, Hank Knox will release another CD featuring the harpsichord works of J.S. Bach.  Along with the works of Handel, Geminani and Babell, this concert will mark the release of this album. The concert will be performed on a harpsichord by Richard Kingston, after Dulcken, 1982.

In collaboration with Concerts Lachine, Olivier Latry will close our Academy on July 18th at Saint-Anges in Lachine with repertoire from Three Centuries of Organ Music at Notre Dame de Paris
