Accolades for McGill Brass at the International Trumpet Guild Convention

The McGill Trumpet Ensemble and professor Richard Stoelzel, Brass Area Chair, recently participated in the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Anaheim, California.  Their prelude concert collegiate performance received astanding ovation. "In my over 20 years going to these conferences, I have never witnessed a prelude concert collegiate trumpet ensemble receive a standing ovation," said Prof. Stoelzel.  McGill trumpet students won more awards than any other school in attendance and were also the most represented school at the conference.  Four of his students Melina Catalano, John Drinkwater, Brent Proseus and Matthew Wolfe won scholarships to the conference.  Additionally,  first-year trumpet student Brent Proseus, competing against much more experienced students, was declared the winner of the International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition and a cash prize of $1500.  In the trumpet ensemble photo from left to right are: John Drinkwater, Benjamin Hare, Matthew Wolfe, Professor Richard Stoelzel, Francis LaPorte, Brent Proseus and David Koch.  In the second photo appears Melina Catalano and Prof. Stoelzel.

As preparation for their California performance, the McGill Trumpet Ensemble performed for three high schools in the Montreal region.
