Published: 9 November 2016

The three finalists chosen to compete for the Wirth Vocal Prize this year are mezzo-soprano Simone McIntosh, bass-baritone Igor Mostovoi and bass Jean-Philippe Mc Clish.  These singers, selected in an earlier-held preliminary round, will each present a thirty minute programme made up of pieces performed in a minimum of three languages and including at least one opera aria. The winner (who will be announced at the end of the  evening) will receive a prize of $25 000 and will be invited to perform at recitals, including one at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. The jury is made up of pianist Michael McMahon, soprano Joan Patenaude-Yarnell and the Director General of the Opéra de Montréal, Patrick Corrigan, and will be chaired by Stéphane Lemelin, pianist and Head of Performance at the Schulich School of Music.

The Wirth Vocal Prize competition will be held at 7:00 p.m. on  November 20 in Pollack Hall, and the event is free and open to the public.  It will also be webcast here: https://livestream.com/accounts/1543792.
