Laura Risk receives Governor General's Award for Academic Excellence

The exceptional research of Laura Risk, PhD'17, has been honoured by McGill University. She has received the University's highest honour, the Governor General's Gold Medal.  This award is granted to the most outstanding graduating Master's or Doctoral student in Human Sciences (Social Sciences and Humanities) with a second equivalent medal being offered in the Natural Sciences, including Biological, Physical or Engineering.  Her thesis work examined musical tradition and identity in Quebec, and explored the evolution of traditional music in Quebec throughout the 20th century and its association with discourses of French-Canadian identity.  In addition to the Governor General's Award, Risk received the McGill Alumni Association Graduate Award, valued at $1,500.
