Violinist Victor Fournelle-Blain wins the string category of the McGill Concerto Competition
Violinist Victor Fournelle-Blain is the strings category winner of the 2014 McGillConcerto Competition. On Sunday, Victor performed his winning rendition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Op. 64 and will perform with the McGill Symphony Orchestra in the 2014-2015 season. The award comes with the recently established Mary Feher Prize, a substantial cash award given for the first time this competition. Currently an Artist Diploma student at Schulich, Victor is a graduate of the Conservatoire de Montréal and of Yale University. He was also the 2012 winner of the Prix d’Europe in Montreal and had been awarded the John Newmark award (2nd prize) in 2011. He is also a 2nd prize winner of the 2010 OSM Standard Life competition and the 2010 Trois-Rivières Symphony competition as well as a winner of several first prizes at the Canadian Music Competition.
Victor has performed with the Trois-Rivières Symphony Orchestra and twice with the Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, and received grants from the McAbbie and Hnatyshyn foundations. A versatile artist, he also plays viola, is a very active chamber musician and often performs new works by his colleagues. Victor is very grateful to Canimex, Qc, Canada, for the loan of a G.F. Pressenda violin and a Sartory bow. Victor is a student of Prof. André Roy.
