Principal Suzanne Fortier on OSM's selection committee for new music director

"The OSM has unveiled a 13-member selection committee to find a replacement for Kent Nagano, who leaves as music director in 2020. McGill principal Suzanne Fortier is chairperson. Former OSM managing director Zarin Mehta is titled senior adviser, which means writers will be relieved of the need to call him an éminence grise."

Announcing the launch of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers

The Schulich School of Music of McGill University is proud to announce the first edition of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers. The late Dr. Graham Sommer, an alumnus of McGill’s Faculty of Medicine as well as an accomplished pianist and ardent music lover, made a gift to create a biennial competition for young Canadian composers, with a focus on chamber music.

Dean Brenda Ravenscroft begins her mandate at the Schulich School of Music

Professor Brenda Ravenscroft is the new Dean of the Schulich School of Music. Formerly Associate Dean in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University, and Professor of Music Theory and Analysis, Prof. Ravenscroft began her mandate at Schulich in July of 2017. Prof. Ravenscroft taught Music Theory at McGill’s Faculty of Music from 1991 to 1993, and has maintained close ties with McGill colleagues through research and teaching interests.

Montreal tabla virtuoso Shawn Mativetsky releases new solo album
