Schulich Chamber Music Competition Winners Announced
The Annual Schulich School of Music Chamber Music Competition took place Tuesday, December 6, in Tanna Schulich Hall. Two groups were declared winners and will travel to Europe for exchange visits to conservatories.
Rice University Students Visit Schulich School of Music
Last month, seven Rice University students traveled from Houston to Montréal to expand Rice’s Gateway Study of Leadership research program at McGill University. Much of the time spent at McGill was at the Schulich School of Music, where the students met with Interim Dean Julie Cumming, Prof.
Alex Soloway announced winner of the McGill Classical Concerto Competition
Artist Diploma Piano Student Alex Soloway has been announced as the winner of this year's Classical Concerto Competition. He is a student of Prof. Ilya Poletaev and was also a winner in 2014 of the McGill Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Aeolus Trio.

The 2016 edition of the OSM Manulife Competition took place last week. This year's categories were strings and organ, for which the semi-final string rounds took place in Tanna Schulich Hall at the Schulich School of Music. The semifinals for organ took place in the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the finals in the Maison symphonique de Montréal at the Grand-Orgue-Pierre-Béique.

Robert Hasegawa receives a Society for Music Theory award
Robert Hasegawa, Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Area Chair for Music Theory at the Schulich School of Music, has received the 'Emerging Scholar Award' at the 2016 Society for Music Theory conference held in Vancouver. His article “Clashing Harmonic Systems in Haas’s Blumenstück and in vain” was published in the journal Music Theory Spectrum 37/2 (Fall 2015).
Mezzo-soprano Simone McIntosh winner of COC Centre Stage Competition
Vancouver-born mezzo-soprano Simone McIntosh, a Master's student of Professor Dominique Labelle at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University was named the winner of the COC Centre Stage Competition on Thursday, November 3rd. The announcement was made at the gala evening event held in Toronto and the prize is sponsored by Board Chair Colleen Sexsmith.
Joshua Morris winner of the 2016-2017 Golden Violin Competition
Cellist Joshua Morris was named the winner of the 2016-2017 Golden Violin Competition held Sunday, October 30th in Pollack Hall. Morris, accompanied by Karsiri Laothamatas, performed Kaddish, from 2 Mélodies hébraïques by Maurice Ravel, a work composed by Morris himself, Suite for Solo Cello, and the Prokofiev Sonata for cello and piano in C major, Op. 119.
