Recording engineer and professor Richard King of Schulich School of Music is nominated for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical for his work on The Goat Rodeo Sessions. Steven Epstein, an adjunct prof, is nominated for Best Musical Theatre Album as part of the team that put together Once: A New Musical. Former associate professor at the Schulich School, Julian Wachner, is nominated for Best Choral Performance for Handel: Israel In Egypt.

Schulich Bass-Baritone Master's student Gordon Bintner awarded 1st Prize and Audience Prize at the COC Ensemble Competition.
Congratulations to Regina native and current student Gordon Bintner, 1st Prize winner and Audience Prize winner at the second annual Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Competition. Bintner, a bass-baritone is one of three young members of the COC's apprenticeship program. The first prize award was $5000, and the People's Choice Award was $1500.

Two current percussion students won prizes, as did a piano alumnae.
Current student Krystina Marcoux, 23, from Quebec won First Prize in the Percussion category, ($10,000) and also won the prize for the Best Interpretation of a Canadian work ($2500) She also won the Banff Center prize for percussion, an award which covers the complete costs of attending a three week session at the Banff Center for Fine Arts this summer.

Pallade Musica wins Early Music America Baroque Competition in NYC
Pallade Musica, a Montreal-based Early Music ensemble, won the Grand Prize at the first Baroque Competition, organised by Early Music America, in New York City last night. The ensemble is made up of Tanya LaPerrière, baroque violin, Elinor Frey, baroque cello, Esteban La Rotta, lute (all three graduates of McGill) and Mylène Bélanger, harpsichord.

Violin Wins For Two Saskatchewan Musicians
Two former Saskatonians have their hands on some very expensive instruments after winning them from the Canada Council for the Arts Instrument Bank. Carissa Klopoushak and Kerry Du-Wors each received a violin for a three-year term. Klopoushak, who now lives in Montreal, received an 1869 Jean-Baptiste Vuil-laume and Vuillaume model bow worth $212,000. It was her first time auditioning for competition and the timing was just right for her to apply.
Canadian Journal of Music Festschrift issue entitled "Contemplating Caplin" featuring Prof. William Caplin
The most recent issue of the journal intersections: Canadian Journal of Music (vol. 31, no. 1, 2010) has been designated a Festschrift issue entitled "Contemplating Caplin". It contains three articles devoted to the theories of musical form developed by William Caplin, who offers a response to each article. An additional article by McGill alumnus James S. MacKay also deals with issues of musical form.
