Early Music Ensembles

Coordinators: Dorian Bandy

Early Music Ensembles have been an integral part of the Early Music programme at McGill since its inception in the late 1960’s. These chamber ensembles come in a wide variety of formations, including madrigal ensembles, vocal duos and trios with continuo, instrumental trios and quartets with continuo and string quartets. They perform repertoire ranging from Josquin chansons to Haydn string quartets on period instruments. Some of these ensembles go on to work together professionally, and many of their members have gone on to perform with the Arion Baroque Orchestra, Ensemble Caprice, le Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal, Les Boréades, Les Voix Baroques and other early music groups in Montreal, across Canada, and internationally.
