POSTPONED - Piece of Mind: Parkinson's disease research in motion
POSTPONED - Given the current status and uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 virus as well as travel restrictions for some we are at this time postponing the Piece of Mind: Parkinson's disease research in motion event.
The Piece of Mind collective is an interdisciplinary team of researchers and artists who are discovering creative ways to representing neuroscientific findings through music and movement. Their current focus is on Parkinson's disease -- from genetic factors, to what's happening on a cellular level, to the lived experience. While this will be a community-based project officially starting in September 2020, the team has already begun creating a music and dance piece illustrating genetic mutations linked to Parkinson's disease.
The main goals of the Piece of Mind project are to:
- Connect neuroscience researchers, individuals with Parkinson's disease & caregivers, and performing artists for direct collaboration
- Use movement and music as a common ground to represent both scientific research on and subjective experience of Parkinson's disease
- Create a performance piece to share with a wider audience, focusing on important issues in Parkinson's disease research, healthcare, advocacy, and more
Join us on April 21 to celebrate Parkinson's Awareness Month with a look at the first performance piece, a short talk on genetic research in Parkinson's disease, and more information about our project in its entirety. We would love to receive your feedback and input as the project moves forward -- as well as recruit more participants!
