Book an Appointment
An appointment can be requested by telephone (514-398-6019) or in person (Brown Student Services Building, 3600 rue McTavish, Suite 5500, West Wing). Please note, if you wish to consult one of our psychiatrists, a referral from your family doctor or another physician is necessary; please fax the referral to 514-398-5529.
At the consultation, students will be interviewed for about an hour by a clinician who will try to understand the challenges that the student may be experiencing.
Duration of Treatment
Short-term psychotherapy is provided at Psychiatric Services. The timeline of treatment will be determined between the mental health professional and student, based on the student's need.
If you feel you are in a crisis situation in which you require help without delay, please refer to Urgent Care for instructions on how to proceed.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
You must bring your McGill ID card and a valid Medical Insurance card (provincial or McGill Blue Cross) to each visit. We also accept CIDA, CIGNA, COWAN and Great-West Life insurance. You will be asked to pay for your visit if you do not have a card. Payment can be made by either debit or credit.
As you will be asked to complete paperwork, please be sure to arrive 15 minutes early.
Due to the high demand for our clinic services, students who cancel their appointments with less than 24 hours before their appointment will pay a $20.00 cancellation fee. Students who do not contact us to cancel will be charged $70.00.
Information for Medical Students
UGME Conflict of Interest Policy
In cases where a student has an academic relationship with a clinician at McGill Counselling Services or at any other clinic, the student has the right to request that McGill Psychiatric Services or any other clinic refer that student to another physician.
In cases where a student may come to have an academic relationship with a physician who has previously provided the student care at McGill Psychiatric Services or at any other clinic, the student has the right and the student and the physician share the responsibility to ensure that the physician recuses him/herself from subsequent evaluations of the student. The student is encouraged to request a change in supervisor or teaching site, as necessary, from the appropriate component administrator: FMD Year 1, FMD Year 2, TCP, Clerkship, and Physicianship.
