Welcome to the Surgical Foundations Training Program at McGill University, in the Faculty of Medicine!

We are delighted to welcome approximately 40 junior surgical residents each academic year. Our program automatically enrolls all first-year residents from all surgical disciplines, including Cardiac Surgery, General-Surgery, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics-Gynecology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Vascular Surgery.

Our academic curriculum is designed to prepare residents for their surgical careers through comprehensive skills acquisition, clinical simulation, and didactic lectures that align with the academic goals of the Surgical Foundations Program. The program culminates in the Principles of Surgery Examination for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Residents from the McGill Oral Maxillofacial Surgery program are also welcome to participate.

Through their training in the McGill Department of Surgery, residents gain a robust surgical knowledge base, honed through rigorous research, technical skill development, and adherence to CanMEDS competencies. This training provides a solid foundation for becoming the next generation of leading medical professionals.
