Current research: 

Dr. Nicoletta Eliopoulos is a scientist with expertise in adult stem and progenitor cells for pre-clinical and clinical cell and/or gene therapy studies.

Her main research as a Principal Investigator at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research (LDI) is exploring the use of mesenchymal stem cells for tissue protection and repair, as well as for delivery of beneficial gene products for various diseases, such as kidney injury and cancer.

In addition, Dr. Eliopoulos is the Laboratory Director of the Jewish General Hospital Cell Processing Center (JGH CPC), a clinical-grade cell handling facility which is committed to fostering early-phase clinical trials testing cell-based technologies. She was involved in the processing of adult progenitor cells for the first cell and gene therapy clinical trial in Canada. She is an active member of the FRQS ThéCell Network, a Cell, Tissue and Gene Therapy Network in Quebec.

Biography: 

Dr. Eliopoulos has M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmacology and postdoctoral training in cell and gene therapy. She was awarded postdoctoral fellowships from the Leukemia Research Fund of Canada and the U.S. Army Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program.

Her latest research studies were funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the McGill Regenerative Medicine Network, and the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
