Margaret Mackenzie, Samantha Nepton, and Taylor Richardson, Winners of McCall MacBain Scholarships
Margaret Mackenzie (BEd’23), Samantha Nepton (BEd’23), and Taylor Richardson (BFA'23 Towson University), are winners of McCall MacBain Scholarships, Canada’s largest leadership-based scholarships for master’s and professional studies.
Each finalist was chosen based on their character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity:

Education: McGill University (BEd'23)
Margaret works part-time as a teacher with the Montreal English School Board and as an Indigenous outreach program coordinator at McGill University. She recently graduated from McGill with a bachelor's degree in education. Margaret served as co-vice president, academic of the Education Undergraduate Society, overseeing a student mentorship program, and facilitated weekly workshops on global citizenship and activism for an elementary school class. She worked as a summer camp counsellor for five years. She will pursue a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, aiming to better advocate for Indigenous peoples within education systems.
Samantha Nepton

Education: McGill University (BEd'23)
Sam works as a homeroom teacher with the English Montreal School Board, supporting students with cognitive disabilities. She also runs McGill's Branches Pick Your Path program, which supports Indigenous CEGEP students through university mentoring, professional and cultural development workshops. During her undergraduate studies at McGill, Sam served as the first equity commissioner of the Education Undergraduate Society, facilitated activities for children at a foster home, and played clarinet in the symphonic band. During an exchange term at the University of Adelaide, she participated in a comedy club. Last summer, she interned with the IMPRESS Indigenous summer research program. Sam will pursue a Master of Arts in Education & Society at McGill.
Taylor Richardson

Towson University (BFA'23)
Taylor recently graduated from Towson University with a bachelor's degree in dance, minoring in Black performance theory. She led the national honours society for dance arts, facilitated dance workshops for children, and joined the advisory board of the National Dance Education Organization as the undergraduate student representative. Taylor also works several part-time jobs, serves as vice-president of her sorority chapter, and directs diversity and inclusion efforts for the National Pan-Hellenic Council, which brings together nine historically African American fraternities and sororities. She will pursue a Master of Arts in Education & Society at McGill, with a long-term goal of leading arts-based community programs for minority youth.
