|Regulations||The Regulations on Maternity Leave, Parental Leave and Extended Parental Leave for Members of the Academic Staff are available from the Secretariat’s website.|
Maternity Leave (maximum 20 weeks)
Applies to the birth mother. Eligible staff members (as defined in the Regulations) are entitled to receive an indemnity from the University, in conjunction with governmental benefits payable through the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP).
Parental Leave (5 days paid)
Applies to spouse of the birth mother and also in cases of adoption.
Extended Parental Leave (maximum 52 weeks)
Applies to either parent and include adoptions. Eligible staff members (as defined in the Regulations) are entitled to receive an indemnity from the University for the first 11 weeks, in conjunction with governmental benefits payable through the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP).
The staff member must give written notice as soon as possible, preferably not later than 60 days prior to the term during which the leave will begin, to allow adequate planning for teaching replacements.

|QPIP Application Procedures||
The staff member must apply to QPIP no later than the week of the start date of the maternity/parental leave or the week the child is born. Staff members are advised to start their application earlier to avoid delays in QPIP approval and payments.

|Replacement Funding||While an academic staff member is on maternity leave, replacement funds may be available. Requests are processed through Human Resources - Shared Services.
