BI Solution Architect (IST3E)
Position Summary: 

Reporting to the BI Manager, the BI Solution Architect elaborates and implements BI and Data Warehousing strategy, architecture and solutions to support informational business requirements. The BI Solution Architect is responsible to oversee and participate in the implementation, technical design, development, testing, execution, on-going support and maintenance of the BI Solutions. The incumbent works with the BI team members to identify potential data sources, complex transformation rules, provides guidelines and establishes best practices. The BI Solution Architect works in collaboration with the Enterprise Architecture group.

Primary Responsibilities: 
  • Elaborate the end to end BI architecture for all components of the BI/Data Warehouse environments
  • Transform the business requirements into BI solutions
  • Provide in-depth expertise in technical design, development, testing and deployment and mentor BI Developers in applying related processes and best-practices
  • Oversee the implementation of the data models, ETL’s, metadata definitions, as well as on-going maintenance and support
  • Participate in data modeling activities
  • Ensure compliance with Enterprise Architecture, ITS and security standards and methodologies
  • Deliver and maintain technology roadmaps that provide robust solutions which meet or exceed requirements and IT service levels agreements, and consider vendor roadmaps
  • Responsible for the overall technical design including dynamic data cleansing, validation, monitoring, automated recovery and automation of software delivery processes
  • Responsible for compatibility between the BI components and other operational systems. Interfaces with Development team for integration involving other applications
  • Responsible for promoting the BI capabilities to the McGill community
  • Stay abreast overall on related technologies and ensure solutions meet required technical design and specifications and that development deliverables adhere to best practices and standards
Minimum Education & Experience: 

Undergraduate degree

Five (5) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities: 
Strong leadership and demonstrated effective communication, writing, planning and coordination skills. Minimum 3 years as BI architect, including data modeling in SQL Server Data Warehouse environment. Expertise with the Microsoft BI stack (on-premises and cloud) Expertise using ETL tools and deep understanding of ETL concepts, standards and best practices. Experience in the development of Enterprise Date Warehouse/Business Intelligence. Experience with Oracle databases (version 11g and 12c). Experience with performance optimization including SQL tuning. Strong understanding of all Data Warehouse concepts. Knowledge of relational and star schema modeling (Data Vault is an asset) Firm sense of accountability and ownership. Experience with Version Control Systems, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment. Knowledge of Software Delivery Life Cycle approaches (Agile, DevOps, ITIL are assets) and methodologies (Macroscope Productivity Center an asset). Attention to detail, diligent and rigorous work methods. Self-motivated, fast learner and demonstrated ability to work on different projects concurrently and to establish priorities. Good team player with strong focus on delivering results to meet the business needs. Ability to coach, mentor and advise. Knowledge of the higher education sector (an asset). Strong leadership with ability to facilitate and drive technical discussions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills - English (spoken and written) - French (spoken).
