Position Summary: 

The Director, International Engagement, will ensure the effective operationalization of McGill’s international strategy by providing high-level strategic advice and operational support to the Provost, Deans of Faculties, and other members of the University’s senior leadership on matters pertaining to the development and advancement of academic programs and services in the international arena.

Primary Responsibilities: 
  • The incumbent will be proactive in identifying areas of opportunity for international program development and the cultivation of international partnerships and service arrangements. In so doing, the incumbent will develop a University-level business plan and business processes to define and direct international program development, and will implement a communications and support structure to ensure that Faculties and other units are informed of expectations and opportunities and receive the support and guidance necessary to ensure effective local development of opportunities.
  • The incumbent will likewise oversee the planning, execution and follow-up of international missions undertaken by the University’s executive leadership for the purposes of University representation and partnership development, and will likewise oversee the preparation, organization and follow-up of visits to McGill by representatives of other institutions and governments.
  • The Director will oversee a small team of professionals who will serve as the primary point of contact for external parties wishing to engage with McGill, and will maintain a comprehensive record of active MOUs, service delivery contracts, international programs, etc. The Director, International Engagement and will also play a key role in the stewardship of existing relationships with international partners and clients. Internally, the incumbent will serve as Chair of the McGill International Committee, the purpose of which is to ensure effective, regular collaboration with other areas of the University’s administrative with a responsibility for international engagement.
Minimum Education & Experience: 

Undergraduate degree

Eight (8) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities: 
Graduate degree preferred. Excellent knowledge of international higher education arena with particular experience in program development and relationship cultivation with international clients and partners. Proven success with business development in higher education environment. Demonstrated leadership capacity. English and French spoken and written.
