McGill-led cannabis research and training program: past the halfway mark and gaining global recognition

The McGill University-led NSERC-CREATE in Quality Assurance and Quality Control for Cannabis Production, Products and Training Program (QAQCC) is now 3.5 years into its 7-year mandate. Awarded days before the first COVID-19 shutdown in March 2020, the industrial stream program has since provided an enriched training program and support to over 45 graduate students and 12 undergraduates from McGill University, the University of Ottawa and the University of Saskatchewan. More than 20 peer-reviewed studies have been published by QAQCC trainees, with over 70 abstracts accepted at conferences for presentations or posters. As conference season approaches, some trainees are set to share findings at meetings in Canada, Europe and the US. The majority of McGill trainees are Macdonald Campus community members, pursuing MScs or PhDs in the Departments of Bioresource Engineering, Food and Agricultual Chemistry and Plant Sciences.

3rd Cannabis Scientific Symposium

Every year, the QAQCC and the McGill Research Centre for Cannabis team up to host the Cannabis Scientific Symposium: From Plants to People. This interdisciplinary gathering engages researchers in McGill's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as investigators across Canada and around the globe to share their research and make important connections. Representatives from Health Canada and industry stakeholders similarly attend. This year's hybrid event will take place June 3-4, 2024, at the Research Institute for the McGill University Health Centre (and online). Registration is required.

Questions may be directed to Dr. mark.lefsrud [at] mcgill.ca (Mark Lefsrud) (Director) or Dr. sarah.macpherson [at] mcgill.ca (Sarah MacPherson) (Program Coordinator).
