Develop your Professional Network

Location: McGill Student Service Building (3600 McTavish St, Brown Bldg, Room 5001)

When it comes to finding a job, your network and your knowledge of employers can give you a competitive edge. Many people, however, still have negative feelings about the idea of networking. This workshop will help you to see networking as an important strategic career tool and provide you with concrete strategies for growing and cultivating your professional network. We'll also cover strategies for researching an employer, and offer tips for asking the right questions when speaking with contacts.

By attending this workshop, students will be able to:
1) Understand that most jobs are found through the hidden job market and that networking is a win-win situation
2) Understand the importance of researching employers and industries
3) Identify  resources  for developing employer knowledge
4) Formulate questions they would ask at an information interview, 5) Create their own script for a cold call to a potential contact in their field.
