The Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralisms invites you to a panel discussion, during which O’Brien fellows Fatemeh Sadeghi Givi, Marianne Bevan and Sharanjeet Parmar will debate how despite its short-comings, the law continues to play a pivotal role in realising gender justice in processes of social transformation.

The panel will be moderated by Professor Payam Akhavan.

  • Marianne Bevan has a background in international development, focused on gender, peace and security. She earned a Master of Development Studies from Victoria University and conducted research in Timor- Leste on gender and United Nations police reform.
  • Sharanjeet Parmar is a recognised expert on transitional justice, anticorruption, conflict- related sexual violence and rule of law. She holds a Master of Laws with distinction in International Legal Studies from New York University School of Law, and an LL.B. from Dalhousie Law School.
  • Fatemeh Sadeghi is a researcher and lecturer of political science and gender studies in Iran. She is a specialist in political thought, gender studies, Islamic political thoughts, and Iranian politics. She obtained her PhD in Political Thought in 2004 from Tarbiat Modarres University in Tehran.
